So I have a week before I move half way across the world for a little bit. It hasn’t really registered yet and looking at pictures like this make it a little bit more surreal. Although, this state of limbo does make me realize that life is crazy and beautiful and I am ridiculously blessed to be surrounded by such wonderful friends. Remember to send me your address! I’m obsessed with the idea of sending postcards.

So what do Indians do when the rainy weather keeps them inside? Eat, of course. My grammy exact words, “Well, we might as well make some biryani if we’re stuck here.” So as the rest of city fills up with water my family and I are having a biryani party. Hahah I’m going to miss this place.

This vacation, my mother and I have been rejected by rickshaw drivers so many times that I have lost count. Oh and it stings every time since they are so freaking harsh about it! In typical New York City taxi fashion, you raise your hand outward to call a rickshaw, but the issue is not finding a ride that is not-occupied, it is if the driver is willing to take you to your neighborhood. So in the streets, these tricky bastards stop right in front of you and get your hopes up, but when you scream out your address and the driver is not willing to go there, for whatever reason, he will not even apologize or for that matter say ‘no’—-he will just drive off. My favorite moments are the times you get splashed with dirty water mixed with the muddy garbage as they drive away, which is what happened to me about 20 minutes ago. Fun fun.
And dammit I still love riding in them.
This song is fairly old, but I just heard it recently and am kinda obsessed with it. Enjoy!

Travel seriously humbles even the biggest know-it-all. I mean I’m constantly reminded of how little I actually know about the experiences/ lives of most Indians and my loved ones. Honestly, it is such a great place to be, because it is in these moments of clarity that you get to intimately learn about the place you are visiting and the people you meet. To some extent, I guess I feel like I’m getting a little bit closer to the greater world at large.
